2022 High Level Political Forum
with TAP Network

Join the TAP Network as we engage extensively around the 2022 United Nations High-Level Political Forum from Tuesday, 5 July, to Friday, 15 July.

TAP at the HLPF

We look forward to engaging in conversations this year around the SDGs being reviewed: 4 on Quality Education, 5 on Gender Equality, 14 on Life Below Water, 15 on Life on Land, and 17 on Partnerships for the Goals. However, it is vital to highlight in review of the SDGs listed above, that all the Sustainable Development Goals are inextricably linked to SDG 16 on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. These interlinkages cannot be ignored as we approach the halfway point in the 2030 Agenda, as it is widely recognized that we cannot hope to achieve the rest of the 2030 Agenda without the successful implementation of SDG16. Further, as the international community continues recovery efforts from the COVID-19 Pandemic, it is essential to center our efforts on the achievement of the SDGs and “leaving no one behind”. Progress on the SDGs has been too slow, and has in many ways backslid in recent years. As we approach this year’s HLPF, TAP is making renewed calls for urgent action and increased commitments towards achieving the SDGs, with a special focus on SDG16.

Our Advocacy

Voices of SDG16+: Stories of Global Action is a collaborative campaign to bring the work of civil society on SDG16+ to the global level of discussions at the United Nations. Individuals and partners from around the world will have the opportunity to submit short videos telling their “stories” of best practices and extraordinary efforts being undertaken towards SDG16+ at the national and local levels. Some individuals will be sponsored to attend the HLPF in person and share their work with the UN community and policymakers. Click here to learn more.

In 2016, the TAP Network produced the “Goal 16 Advocacy Toolkit: A practical guide for stakeholders for national-level advocacy around Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies” to support the implementation of and accountability for SDG 16.  Building upon the experiences and lessons learned during the first five years of implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, this new resource provides up-to-date information on the approaches, practical steps and key resources that are essential to advance peaceful, just and inclusive societies.  Click here to access the publication.

SDG16+ in Peril: An urgent call-to-action for safeguarding commitments to Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies” is an addendum to the 2019 and 2021 versions of the Rome Civil Society Declaration that raises the alarm on the further backsliding of SDG16+ and highlights what civil society stakeholders have identified as key areas where action is needed for peaceful societies to prosper.  Learn more and endorse the document here.

This training course seeks to support more peaceful, just, and inclusive societies through Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16), the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the Voluntary National Review (VNR) process. Click here to access thee e-course for free!

The Global SDG Accountability Report is a first-of-its-kind publication that aims to survey the current state of accountability (or lack thereof) for the 2030 Agenda at subnational, national and international levels.  Click here to access the publication.

The TAP Partner Action Platform is an interactive database featuring the work of TAP Network’s Partner organizations. These “Partners” are organizations that are explicitly committed to helping take TAP’s agenda and work forward, by making specific commitments outlining their work around SDG16 or accountability for the 2030 Agenda – and pledge to report on their commitment in the future. Explore the dynamic registry here.

In 2021 TAP Network launched the TAP Storytelling Initiative, which aims to closely and frequently highlight the work of the TAP Network membership through working directly with them to produce educational online content about their endeavors addressing SDG16+ and accountability for the 2030 Agenda. Together in this initiative, TAP aims to spotlight the work of our Members and Partners and the challenges, successes, failures, processes and problem solving that comes with it, while also offering the chance for wide promotion through TAP’s outreach channels. We hope that these opportunities will not only offer heightened visibility of the work of our Network, but will also inspire and educate more commitments to SDG16 and transparency and accountability for the 2030 Agenda as a whole.  Read the stories here.
