2023 High Level Political Forum
with TAP Network

Join the TAP Network as we participate in the United Nations High-Level Political Forum from Monday, 10 July, to Wednesday, 19 July.

TAP at the HLPF

The 2023 HLPF represents an important milestone as a critical ā€œon-rampā€ leading into the 2023 SDG Summit in September 2023. Additionally, with 2023 representing the ā€œhalfway pointā€ to the 2030 Agenda, this yearā€™s HLPF provides an important opportunity to reflect on backsliding progress towards SDG16+, and examine solutions for turning things around in the second half of implementation towards 2030. At the 2023 HLPF, the TAP Network will look to build further momentum around its #SDG16Now Campaign leading up to the SDG Summit, and will also launch the ā€œHalfway to 2030 Report on SDG16+ā€ ā€“ a first-of-its-kind global civil society report on the state of progress towards SDG16+.

Our Advocacy

#SDG16Now is a global civil society campaign to support accelerated action towards SDG16+ around peaceful, just and inclusive societies. At the halfway point to the 2030 delivery date for the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda, governments and the international community must seize the moment at the September 2023 SDG Summit to reinvigorate commitments and financing for SDG16+, to bring progress towards the SDGs back on track.

This Halfway to 2030 Report on SDG16+ represents a joint civil society effort to assess progress towards peaceful, just and inclusive societies at this critical halfway point to the 2030 target date for the implementation of the SDGs in 2023. In addition to providing in-depth analysis around key SDG16+ issues, this report is also intended to provide key recommendations to governments and the international community on where action and ambition must be directed in the second half of SDG implementation to 2030.Ā  The Halfway to 2030 Report on SDG16+ will be published during the 2023 HLPF.Ā  Register here for the official launch event.

An urgent call for transformative SDG16+ commitments at the midpoint of the 2030 Agenda” is an addendum to the 2019, 2021 and 2023 versions of the Rome Civil Society Declaration that raises the alarm on the further backsliding of SDG16+ and highlights what civil society stakeholders have identified as key areas where action is needed for peaceful societies to prosper.Ā  Learn more and endorse the document here.

In 2016, the TAP Network produced the ā€œGoal 16 Advocacy Toolkit: A practical guide for stakeholders for national-level advocacy around Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societiesā€ to support the implementation of and accountability for SDG 16.Ā  Building upon the experiences and lessons learned during the first five years of implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, this new resource provides up-to-date information on the approaches, practical steps and key resources that are essential to advance peaceful, just and inclusive societies.Ā  Click here to access the publication.

Voices of SDG16+: Stories of Global Action is a collaborative campaign to bring the work of civil society on SDG16+ to the global level of discussions at the United Nations. Individuals and partners from around the world will have the opportunity to submit short videos telling their ā€œstoriesā€ of best practices and extraordinary efforts being undertaken towards SDG16+ at the national and local levels. Some individuals will be sponsored to attend the HLPF in person and share their work with the UN community and policymakers. Click here to learn more.

The TAP Partner Action Platform is an interactive database featuring the work of TAP Networkā€™s Partner organizations. These ā€œPartnersā€ are organizations that are explicitly committed to helping take TAPā€™s agenda and work forward, by making specific commitments outlining their work around SDG16 or accountability for the 2030 Agenda ā€“ and pledge to report on their commitment in the future. Explore the dynamic registry here.

In 2021 TAP Network launched the TAP Storytelling Initiative, which aims to closely and frequently highlight the work of the TAP Network membership through working directly with them to produce educational online content about their endeavors addressing SDG16+ and accountability for the 2030 Agenda. Together in this initiative, TAP aims to spotlight the work of our Members and Partners and the challenges, successes, failures, processes and problem solving that comes with it, while also offering the chance for wide promotion through TAPā€™s outreach channels. We hope that these opportunities will not only offer heightened visibility of the work of our Network, but will also inspire and educate more commitments to SDG16 and transparency and accountability for the 2030 Agenda as a whole.Ā  Read the stories here.
