Organization mission and work description:

ENDA ECOPOP appropriates the main values of ENDA Third World Network and specific manner it intends to invest in the promotion of local communities based on the following specific values: activism and responsible, Diversity, Equity and Empowerment, An ethical approach based on innovation and co-production of the actors. ENDA ECOPOP is particularly interested in grassroots communities in articulating its intervention to the local (city / district) on a global scale (international) through the municipal and national levels. The mode of action and is based on four key levers: Studies, Action Research and Experimentation ; Capitalization of interventions and modeling to develop, for the benefit of local actors and inclusive territorial development practitioners; instruments and tools for action; Training of actors to strengthen their response capabilities and develop real social transformations; Advocacy, in hence and networking for improved policies. Current Commitment to SDG16+

Summary of commitment:

SDG 16+ is THE MUST HAVE for 2030 Agenda and realize other SDGs. It is so important to have strong institutions at the local level. It is so important to work for have more citizen participation. But it’s just crazy to see the way that we work for sectoral SDGs and don’t do the necessary for SDG 16. It’ not possible to get results on health, education climate change or other area if we don’t have good governance. The transformation that we want for 2030 will be not possible if we don’t have a clear strategy and approach regarding SDG16.

Organization's priorities and work in relation to commitment:

For the 2017-2021 period, the overall objective of ENDA ECOPOP is to promote the management of the rights of local communities in sustainable territories. His ambition is thus to ensure that local communities enjoy their economic, social, environmental, cultural and political areas in prosperous, healthy, safe and friendly. In this perspective, ENDA ECOPOP intends articulate its future intervention for local authorities and local communities in Africa around four key areas: Axis 1: Improving local democracy, participation and commitment This axis allows ENDA ECOPOP to continue its interventions in the framework of territorial participatory governance. The objective is to improve democracy and strengthen the participation and involvement citizens in the management of local public affairs. So ECOPOP intends to act so that more local governments develop participatory democratic approaches that have an impact on the welfare of citizens. Axis 2: Enhancing the attractiveness of local authorities The specific objective, through this axis is to contribute to improving the attractiveness of local authorities in Africa for states, development partners and local communities. Axis 4: Support for the territorialisation of public policies and international Diaries The objective is to internalize at territorial level national strategic directions of development and international commitments, including the economic emergence Plans, Agenda 2030 Sustainability Goals, the New Urban Agenda, the Agreements on mitigation and adaptation to climate change.
