Current Commitment to SDG16+

Summary of commitment:

--- Organisational Commitment to Implementing SDG 16+ Our organization is deeply committed to advancing SDG 16+, which encompasses the promotion of peaceful, just, and inclusive societies, the protection of human rights, the strengthening of accountable institutions, and the creation of partnerships that leave no one behind. We believe that sustainable development cannot be achieved without peace, justice, and effective governance at all levels. Vision and Objectives Our vision is to contribute to societies where every individual enjoys freedom, justice, and equal opportunity to participate in decision-making. To achieve this, we have set the following objectives: 1. Promote Good Governance and Accountability – Strengthen institutional transparency, civic engagement, and participatory decision-making processes. 2. Enhance Access to Justice – Support community-based initiatives that improve legal literacy and access to justice for marginalized groups. 3. Foster Peace and Social Cohesion – Build trust and dialogue across communities to prevent conflict and promote inclusive peacebuilding. 4. Advance Human Rights and Inclusion – Advocate for the protection of vulnerable populations, including women, youth, and persons with disabilities. 5. Strengthen Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships – Collaborate with government agencies, civil society, and the private sector to create systemic change. Theory of Change Our theory of change is grounded in the belief that empowered citizens and accountable institutions are the foundation of sustainable peace and justice. By equipping communities with knowledge, tools, and platforms for participation, we enable them to hold institutions accountable and contribute meaningfully to governance processes. In parallel, we support institutions to become more transparent, inclusive, and responsive to public needs. Together, these efforts create a reinforcing cycle of trust, accountability, and stability that advances SDG 16 and related goals (particularly SDGs 5, 10, and 17). Work Plan and Key Activities (2025–2030) 2025–2026: Conduct governance and justice baseline assessments; establish community peace forums and legal awareness programs. 2026–2027: Implement capacity-building workshops for civil servants and local leaders on transparency and human rights. 2027–2028: Scale youth-led peacebuilding and social innovation projects; launch digital platforms for civic participation. 2028–2030: Strengthen cross-sector partnerships and integrate SDG 16+ indicators into national and local development frameworks. Monitoring and Accountability We will adopt participatory monitoring tools aligned with the SDG 16+ indicators, ensuring that progress is data-driven and inclusive. Regular public reports, community scorecards, and stakeholder reviews will enhance transparency and learning. Partnership and Collaboration Our organization recognizes that achieving SDG 16+ requires collective effort. We are committed to working with local communities, national governments, and international partners to share best practices, foster innovation, and amplify impact.

Organization's priorities and work in relation to commitment:

Our organization’s work directly aligns with the Transparency, Accountability, and Participation (TAP) Network’s mission to strengthen the implementation and monitoring of SDG 16+, particularly in promoting peaceful, just, and inclusive societies. 1. Alignment with SDG 16+ Goals We focus on advancing several key targets under SDG 16, including: 16.6: Developing effective, accountable, and transparent institutions. 16.7: Ensuring responsive, inclusive, participatory, and representative decision-making. 16.10: Ensuring public access to information and protecting fundamental freedoms. Beyond SDG 16, our work also contributes to SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), reinforcing the integrated nature of SDG 16+. 2. Contribution to Accountability for the 2030 Agenda We strengthen accountability mechanisms by: Monitoring and reporting: Supporting local civil society organizations to collect and analyze data for Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) and other accountability processes. Civic engagement: Facilitating multi-stakeholder dialogues that bring together government, civil society, and marginalized communities to ensure inclusive policymaking. Capacity building: Providing training on social accountability tools, data transparency, and SDG monitoring frameworks. Advocacy: Engaging in regional and global platforms (e.g., HLPF) to advocate for open governance, civic space protection, and citizen-driven monitoring of SDG progress. 3. Partnership with the TAP Network Our collaboration with the TAP Network amplifies our impact by: Contributing case studies and good practices to TAP’s global reports and resources. Participating in joint advocacy campaigns on accountability and civic space. Sharing methodologies for community-based SDG monitoring. Engaging in peer-learning and knowledge-sharing opportunities to strengthen our evidence-based advocacy. 4. Future Directions We plan to deepen this collaboration by co-developing tools for localizing SDG 16 indicators, supporting shadow reporting processes, and promoting multi-level accountability frameworks that connect local realities to national and global reporting mechanisms.
