Organization mission and work description:
Tiro Association for Arts (TAA) was established in 2014 as a non-governmental organization under license n° 2633, located in the Lebanese National Theater in both cities, Tyre and Tripoli, in South and North Lebanon. TAA works on encouraging the local communities to engage with culture and the arts outside of religious and political frames. The association also believes that these communities can express themselves through culture and the arts, not only to convey their identity but also to showcase the issues and challenges that they face. That is, by gathering young volunteers from diverse social, cultural, religious, and ethnic backgrounds with the aim of creating an alternative movement to have a social change. OUR VISION Culture and the arts become unmodulated for a certain city in Lebanon, but rather, the marginalized areas retrieve the right to express themselves through culture and the arts so that the latter could be a mutual right by using public spaces. OUR MISSION Congregate children and youth and encourage them to recognize creative self-expression measures such as performing arts, cinema, fine arts, and handcrafts, while also developing their life skills. Through this, children and youth become the decision-makers who would lead to social change and contribute to a cohesive society. OUR OBJECTIVES TAA aims to create free and independent cultural forums by rehabilitating and reopening closed cinemas so that artistic training workshops, festivals, and artistic exhibitions can be organized. The association programs artistic and educational cinematic performances for children and youth, weaves exchange networks with international festivals, and grants an opportunity for young directors to present their films. In addition to this, TAA works on introducing the audience to the history of cinema, local and international performances, and revitalizing the role of theater. It also aims to: • Increasing the recognition of culture and the arts’ value in society. • Developing the artistic and life skills of children and youth through the arts. • Encouraging a committed and purposeful theatrical movement. • Organizing multi-disciplinary festivals and fostering collaborations and co-creation. • Contributing to decentralization as well as parallel cultural development and policy improvement. • Admitting that “art shall be a right for everyone.” OUR VALUES • Promoting tolerance and social justice by ensuring equality, solidarity, and rejecting all kinds of discrimination. • Respecting others’ opinions, differences, diversity, and cultural openness. • Respecting gender, equality, and freedom of expression and belief. • Defending human rights and advocating for social causes. • Creating a safe environment that respects freedoms.

Current Commitment to SDG16+
Summary of commitment:
"Through cultural and creative involvement, community empowerment, and inclusive public participation, the Tiro Association for Arts continues to be committed to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). Tiro, which was established in Lebanon in 2014, offers a secure, innovative, and democratic forum for marginalized groups, particularly those of women, children, youth, people with disabilities, and refugees, to freely express themselves, acquire new skills, and take an active role in social change. Our main goal is in line with the objectives of SDG16, which include creating inclusive and peaceful societies, guaranteeing that everyone has access to justice, and creating efficient, responsible institutions at all levels. Our venues, such as the Lebanese National Theaters in Tyre and Tripoli, and soon the renovated Cinema Colisee in Beirut, organize cultural festivals, theatrical plays, training courses, and civic engagement projects to accomplish this. Through the arts, Tiro fosters social cohesion and peaceful dialogue by: • Putting on cultural festivals and street theater performances that create welcoming public areas for conversation and inclusion. • Giving children and youth impacted by poverty, displacement, and war free programs in visual arts, storytelling, drama therapy, and filmmaking. • Collaborating with local councils, schools, and orphanages to provide mobile art programs that promote tolerance, involvement, and dispute resolution abilities. Our theory of change is based on the idea that stronger communities, more accountable institutions, and empowered individuals are the results of inclusive cultural involvement. We interrupt cycles of exclusion, stimulate civic involvement, and empower youngsters to become peacebuilders and advocates for justice in their communities by providing marginalized groups with artistic tools and democratic values. Tiro’s work plan for the next two years includes: • Delivering 4–5 national workshops on artivism and social justice to amplify local voices and strengthen community resilience. • Launching the “Innovating Education for All” program—providing artistic and life skills education to 100+ youth and women each year. • Expanding our theater-for-peace initiatives to rural and underserved areas using mobile artistic teams. • Engaging in advocacy campaigns that highlight the role of arts in peacebuilding and promote freedom of expression. Through these efforts, we directly contribute to the achievement of SDG16 targets, particularly: • 16.1: Reducing violence by offering alternatives for expression and healing; • 16.7: Ensuring responsive, inclusive, and participatory decision-making; • 16.a: Strengthening relevant national institutions through capacity-building at the grassroots level. Our commitment to SDG16 is long-term and driven by a vision of a just society where all people, regardless of background, can contribute to and benefit from cultural life, democratic participation, and peace."
Organization's priorities and work in relation to commitment:
Through inclusive cultural initiatives that advance justice, peace, and civic engagement, the Tiro Association for Arts supports SDG16+. Through theater, narrative, cinema, and public art, we enable marginalized groups—particularly women, youth, refugees, and people with disabilities—to express themselves, have conversations, and fight for their rights. Our efforts support TAP's objectives by: promoting accountability and public involvement through street theater and community festivals. implementing the SDGs locally through innovative campaigns, mobile workshops, and rights and inclusion education. fostering information access and peaceful societies by offering forums for discussion and secure cultural spaces. By exchanging resources for grassroots activism, engaging in collaborative advocacy, and incorporating local perspectives from Lebanon and the MENA area into international SDG16+ debates, we can support TAP.
