Current Commitment to SDG16+

Summary of commitment:

In 2021-2022, the CDHD will focus on gender equality, human rights promotion and civic participation through advocacy, capacity building and awareness raising. The CDHD will use partnerships to tackle the most challenging issues and will use multi-stakeholder opportunities for advocacy.

Organization's priorities and work in relation to commitment:

CDHD’s priorities are twofold: contributing to the advancement of democracy and working toward social change in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In this regards, CDHD has put in place thematic areas to pursue the organization commitment; these thematic competencies aim to generate strategic insights, analyses and are used to get the involvement of stakeholders (such as communities) in ensuring community development. CDHD uses different approaches including monitoring, research, advocacy and capacity building to fulfill its mission. CDHD’s 2021-2023 action plan outlines activities that are totally in line with the SDG16. It expresses the organisation’s priorities that focus on the implementation of various activities relating to political and civil rights, women’s right, business and human rights. They include: • Monitoring the state of human rights (freedoms or civil liberties, gender, democratization, good governance…) • monitoring the impact of mining corporates on human rights • ensuring the development of women's rights. In addition, CDHD uses a rights-based approach to contribute to the improvement of the livelihoods of populations. Political rights and socioeconomic rights constitute the basis of CDHD’s contribution to establish a better world for everyone; through them, CDHD answers to the call to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). In this regard, CDHD’s theory of change intends to achieve the following intermediate results: • Populations increasingly claim their rights and protect themselves more efficiently from abuses • Increased responsiveness of CDHD in ensuring accountability for human rights violations • Local communities are able to claim their rights through negotiations with state’s officials • CDHD partners with national, regional and international organisations in order to foster its response to end misery.

Organization's work related to TAP network's SGD16+ work & accountability for 2030 Agenda:

The CDHD Action Plan 2021-2022 presents activities that promote human rights, gender equality and freedoms that are part of SDG16+ and the 2030 Agenda. The CDHD's actions are enriched by the experience gained from the TAP network as a result of exchanges with members. In addition, some of the organisation's activities have been inspired by the TAP network's 2020-2022 strategic plan. The CDHD will integrate the TAP meetings into its internal agenda, and they should be taken with particular attention.

Plan on engaging in TAP's work as a Partner:
  • Thematic Working Groups
  • Exploring partnerships with like-minded organizations
  • Global engagement via the UN and other opportunities
  • TAP Network joint global advocacy
  • Exploring opportunities for hosting TAP Network national or regional-level capacity building activities
