Current Commitment to SDG16+

Summary of commitment:

Dignity Initiative has been working to promote Dalit rights, with the special emphasize on SDG-16. Our advocacy and other works are directed at increasing Dalit's access to justice and lobby to make the public institutions inclusive and accountable. Therefore, we can commit to conduct study and lobby advocacy at the national, regional and international level in relation to the implementation of SDG-16.

Organization's priorities and work in relation to commitment:

Dignity Initiative has been working to educate grassroots level Dalit CSOs about the importance of SDGs. They are further trained on SDG-16 so that they can hold the sub-national government accountable towards upholding Dalit rights. We have conducted training in all seven provinces to this end. ON behalf of the Dalit CSOs, Dignity Initiative has also contributed to prepare CSOs report during the second VNR submission. Major recommendations of this report were also incorporated into the government's report presented in the High Level Political Forum (HLPF). Dignity Initiative also had the opportunity to address the side event under the education and academia stakeholders group. We highlighted Dalit's participation and access to education during the covid-19 pandemic. Among the other speakers are the Minister of Education of Peru, Deputy General Secretary of Education International, and the Secretary-General of the International Council for Adult Education. Therefore, Dignity Initiative will continue to advocate for inclusion and diversity, justice and string institutions for Dalit and other marginalized groups. We are planning to hold numbers of workshops this year in collaboration with the sub-national governments.

Organization's work related to TAP network's SGD16+ work & accountability for 2030 Agenda:

Caste-based discrimination is rampant in the country. Dalits are excluded from the all forms of governance. Therefore, under the banner of SDG-16, we have been working to hold the state accountable towards upholding constitutional commitments. It will also work with the law enforcement agencies to sensitize them about Dalit and increase their access to justice. So, Dignity Initiative will collaborate with other Dalit CSOs across South Asia to collectively fight against the caste inequality.
