Reports on Organization's Past Commitments

GFMD played a central role in advocating for the UNā€™s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to include governance goal inclusive of the role of independent media, access to information, and freedom of expression. GFMD engaged at multiple levels to achieve this goal. We developed communications material and an advocacy toolkit to empower local organizations in the Global South to lobby their governments. Through its dedication to supporting independent journalism and broad public access to information, GFMD is committed to enhance the reporting process of Access to Information (ATI) laws. In 2019, GFMD, in collaboration with Deutsche Welle Akademie and Free Press Unlimited, in consultation with the Centre for Law and Democracy and Africa Freedom of Information Centre are pleased to announce the release of the ā€œRoad to 2030: Access to Information in the driverā€™s seatā€ ā€“ a report on the state of public Access to Information (ATI) in ten Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) countries.
