Current Commitment to SDG16+
Summary of commitment:
At Global Justice Group, we are driven by the conviction that where there is a right, there must be a remedy. Our work directly aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16), which aims to promote peaceful and inclusive societies, provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions. Our mission is to secure reparative justice for victims of gross human rights violations and international crimes. We work alongside survivors and their families to hold those who profit from systemic violence and exploitation financially accountable. Our commitment to SDG 16 lies in ensuring that survivors are not just heard but are at the center of legal, social, and political responses to injustice.
Organization's priorities and work in relation to commitment:
Global Justice Group’s work aligns closely with the TAP Network’s focus on advancing SDG16+ and promoting accountability for the 2030 Agenda. Our mission to secure reparative justice for victims of gross human rights violations and international crimes directly contributes to key SDG16+ targets, particularly those related to access to justice (16.3), accountable institutions (16.6), inclusive decision-making (16.7), and protection of fundamental freedoms (16.10). We take a survivor-centered approach by working directly with African migrant domestic workers who have experienced trafficking and exploitation, ensuring their voices shape justice systems and policy reform. Through legal documentation and strategic litigation, we seek to dismantle impunity, increase the cost of abuse, and hold both state and non-state actors accountable. Our advocacy challenges exploitative systems such as the Kafala model and pushes for more transparent, rights-based migration governance. We also monitor state compliance with international obligations and SDG16+ commitments, contributing to the broader accountability landscape through engagement with UN mechanisms and regional bodies like the African Union. By generating survivor-led data, sharing lived experiences, and building public awareness, we support evidence-based advocacy and participatory accountability efforts. Looking ahead, we see strong potential for collaboration with the TAP Network and its partners in areas such as joint advocacy, shadow reporting, and the development of survivor-centered indicators to track progress on justice and institutional accountability.
