Current Commitment to SDG16+
Summary of commitment:
Building inclusive and effective institutions and violence-free at the local level
Organization's priorities and work in relation to commitment:
Jendela Desa Indonesia ( Indonesian Rural Window ) Foundation believes that to achieve social and environmental transformation in the village, partnerships with various stakeholders are needed that uphold the values of human rights. Strong rural democratic, accountable and transparent institutions are a precondition for achieving sustainable peace and justice for all. According to the Taskforce on Justice, 1.1 billion people currently lack legal identity and one third of children under five were not registered at birth.144 Two-thirds of the world population currently lack meaningful access to justice. Conflicts and tension in cities and surrounding territories include violence resulting from exclusionary processes (e.g. discriminatory policies and evictions), interpersonal violence, hate crimes, and organized crime. As the first level of public administration, Rural governments are where transformations towards more effective, accountable and transparent institutions must begin. The most fundamental contribution of Jendela Desa Indonesia to SDG 16 lie in: the daily task of including all inhabitants on civil registers, particularly at birth; providing basic services; and taking pro-active measures to combat local violence and discriminatory policies. Our organization staff also implement mediation strategies both between different communities and between communities and corporate in natural resources conflict. In relating with SDG 16, In the future we would like to focus in Post Conflict ( peacebuilding ) program. Those are : 1. Research and knowledge sharing that contribute to improving community welfare through optimization of sustainable agriculture, environment and health sectors. 2. Carry out empowerment programs in the outskirts, underdeveloped and marginalized areas by involving the government, private sector, media, universities and the community (Pentahelix models). 3. Improvement the network of cooperation or partnerships nationally and globally 4. Improvement of village government capacity 5. Encouraging local economic growth through cooperatives and the establishment of micro-enterprises.
