The organization has since started work with regards to using technology for accountability, human rights and governance good. It has developed a mobile application called Astrea Justice that is available for download on both App Store and Play Store. The solution has had 100+ installs up to now from Play Store alone. It has features such as "Your Rights and What To DO" which helps users know their rights such as right to administrative justice and other accountability rights in three local languages to empower users to know what they're entitled to and demand it. It also has a feature that allows users to report violations and get assistance. "To Officers" feature helps users know what to say and not to say when arrested. Current Commitment to SDG16+

Summary of commitment:

Justice Code Foundation commits to the advancement of SDG 16 within Zimbabwe, Southern Africa and Africa at large, leveraging the power of technology to empower ordinary citizens to assert their rights, demand accountability and transparency and also assist them if they face harm or threats of harm while trying to assert their rights. It commits to developing open source technologies that can be used to advance human rights, promote accountability and justice under its protect, promote and remedy framework. It has also commits to monitoring the implementation of new technologies in Zimbabwe and Africa. It commits to be the leader in CivicTech in Africa by 2027.

Organization's priorities and work in relation to commitment:

We believe that technology is exploited, leveraged and channeled correctly for civic good, people can realize and appreciate its power and get empowerment easily and conveniently to assert their rights and authorities at a local and national level can respect rights, democracy and proper governance. In that regard, our priorities are that almost every Zimbabwean has the right tools as close to them as their phone is to be able to demand accountability and assert their rights. In that regard, our objectives are to identify the right technologies that different communities and demographics in ZImbabwe understand and use such to distribute our solution. Our plan is that we use WhatsApp chatbots and USSD in rural Zimbabwe by end of 2022 to deliver the empowerment and assistance we're looking for.

Organization's work related to TAP network's SGD16+ work & accountability for 2030 Agenda:

Our organization's main focus is to use, harness the power of technology to asssist ordinary citizens to be able to understand what they're entitled to and realize their power then be able to demand accountability. In that regard, we also understand, given the nature of our environment of operation that there may be harm while trying to assert these rights, therefore, we have also focused on our users having justice whenever they face the danger of violation of their rights.

Plan on engaging in TAP's work as a Partner:
  • Substantive contribution to any TAP Network resources or advocacy materials
  • Interest in leadership/coordination opportunities within the TAP Network
  • Exploring partnerships with like-minded organizations
