Current Commitment to SDG16+

Summary of commitment:

In coming years, MY World Mexico will mobilize and raise awareness to more than 1 million people from Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean in favor of the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Activities will also be programmed within the organization’s 10th anniversary, which will touch on SDG 16, particularly in advocating for all sectors’ participation in SDG reviewing.

Organization's priorities and work in relation to commitment:

Since MY World Mexico’s creation in 2014, the organization has now impacted on +100 million people across Mexico and Latin America thanks to +2 million actions by +100,000 volunteers and +100 campaigns. Since 2015, MY World Mexico has been a convening partner to the UN SDG Action Campaign for the Global Week to #Act4SDGs, in which it has mobilized and organized different events to inspire change, action, and awareness for thousands of people across Mexico and other countries in the Latin American region. Just this year (2023) we reached more than 1,200,000 participants through different activities and activations. Our objective in relation to the commitment is: Ensure that a large part of the population of Mexico and Latin America is aware of the 2030 Agenda, and thus takes action in order to achieve it. Timeline: July Planning starts. July-September contact with partners, visual guides are designed, call to action starts, countdown, activities are planned, etc. October Actions are counted and results are shared. Theory of Change: A small part of the population of the Latin American region is interested in the 2030 Agenda and its SDGs > Partners are invited to organize events and MYWM plans activities > The visual guide invites to action and informs, and partners invite the population to their events > In person and online events are held in different parts of Mexico and Latin America > A bigger part of the population in Mexico and Latin America is involved in the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through their activations.

Organization's work related to TAP network's SGD16+ work & accountability for 2030 Agenda:

Active participation in events and declarations: MY World Mexico is actively involved in events related to SDG 16 and closely follows relevant declarations. Thus, it has been part of the review processes of the 2023 Rome Civil Society Declaration on SDG 16+. Event organization: MY World Mexico seeks to influence processes at the local and international levels to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. This year we co-organized the Global People's Assembly in New York, together with Global Call To Action Against Poverty and other allies. This initiative seeks to make visible the importance of accelerating actions for the SDGs, including SDG 16+, in the midst of the road to 2030 Strategic partnerships for impact initiatives: MY World Mexico stands out for its constant search for participation in different strategies and for adding its voice in different declarations. This year, the Global Coalition of Civil Society, Indigenous Peoples, Social Movements and Local Communities, of which we are part, won the UN Human Rights Award, further strengthening our commitment to these important causes. Mobilization and inspiration campaign: MY World Mexico is also involved in the development of various campaigns throughout the year. As an example of this, during October 2021 we held a conference focused on the detection and prevention of human trafficking in indigenous communities. Our organization is based on the philosophy of "Inspire, Connect and Mobilize". We are an entity that seeks to accelerate change through coordinated collaboration, awareness raising and local activities. We are confident that we can contribute significantly to the TAP network with its objectives, given our knowledge of advocacy processes and our expertise in peacekeeping. In terms of accountability, through transparency and international reporting, we seek to provide a solid direction to strengthen accountability under SDG16+ and effectively contribute to building a more just, peaceful and sustainable world.
