Current Commitment to SDG16+

Summary of commitment:

WADI commits to reducing the gender gap in Jordan through empowering women living in rural and underprivileged areas. WADI commits to reducing conflicts in communities through creating sustainable natural resources. WADI commits to building the capacity of women and youth, and creating economic opportunities for communities to reduce poverty.

Organization's priorities and work in relation to commitment:

In line with WADI’s vision and mission, the main goals of the project are to: 1. Engage communities to foster sustainable water conservation and land stewardship 2. Promote nature-based solutions that inform effective land management and climate change adaptation resilience 3. Support sustainable production of native high-quality plant seedlings 4. Establish demonstration sites informed by research and emerging best practices. All of these objectives aim towards a sustainable community that is informed, educated, and able to seek economic opportunities to increase its economic benefit and income. These objectives target women and youth in underprivileged communities and sees their great role in learning and contributing to the overall household's income. WADI plans to achieve its goals in 2022 targeting communities residing in the vicinity of the forst, in addition to those residing in the Jordan Badia (Wadi Rum). In 2023, WADI will focus on providing marketing and production training workshops to women living in Wadi Rum, and help them to target the Amman and expat market through agri-business, selling seedlings, creating Badia experiences and events.

Organization's work related to TAP network's SGD16+ work & accountability for 2030 Agenda:

WADI's work will contribute through minimizing the gender gap, which will in-turn reduce the chances of gender-based violence. WADI will do this through conducting baseline assessments, field visits, focus group discussions, assessing the knowledge of the community (both men and women), designing training training curriculums for men and women, youth of different age groups, and for the decision makers in the community. WADI plans to achieve communities' sustainability and self-reliance through natural resources use and utilization.
