Civil Society Coalition on Sustainable Development (www.cscsdev.org) is a network of close to 2000 NGOs, CBOs, FBOs, professional associations based in Nigeria. Reinforcing the assertion that SDG16 underpins the entire 2030 Agenda and that SDG16 is linked with all other SDGs, CSCSD collaborates with other development actors and organizations in engaging on issues around Goal 16 of the SDGs which is to “promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.”

Current Commitment to SDG16+

Summary of commitment:

We are poised to thinking globally but acting locally especially on the need to have a more transparent and accountable government Our overall objective is to support, contribute and strengthen capacity of civil society and other SDGs stakeholders to work on issues of transparency, accountability and participation in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and integration of 2063 Agenda with a particular focus on SDG 16 which underpins the entirety of the 17 SDGs.

Organization's priorities and work in relation to commitment:

The outline of our work include, among others: 1. Building the capacity of our members on the issue of Freedom of Information Act 2011. 2. Creating awareness on gender-based violence, torture of children and female genital mutilation, and against related death rates. 3. Sensitization and capacity building on human trafficking and smuggling of persons. 4. Campaigning against impunity and decrying shrinking civic space for civil society. 5. Collaborating with anti-corruption agencies to campaign against corruption and bribery in both government and civil spaces. 6. Engaging the state actors on transparency and accountability for good governance. 7. Clamouring for all-inclusive non-discriminatory policy making at all levels for the benefit of the maginalised, the poor and the voiceless.

Organization's work related to TAP network's SGD16+ work & accountability for 2030 Agenda:

TAP Network believes in transparency and accountability. It also believes that Goal 16 of the SDGs underpins other goals. Reinforcing the assertion that SDG16 underpins the entire 2030 Agenda and that SDG16 is linked with all other SDGs, CSCSD collaborates with other development actors and organizations in engaging on issues around Goal 16 of the SDGs which is to “promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.” Our coalition is ready to collaborate with TAP in the area of policy advocacy issue. We are also ready to make input into relevant position papers around SDG16. Resources available, we are willing to be organizing workshops around VNR/HLPF every year and capacity building activities at both regional and national levels..

CSCSD is committed to creating inclusive platforms for engaging political leadership and other stakeholders around SDG 16 and to supporting monitoring and accountability for the 2030 Agenda in Nigeria.
