Summary of commitment:

PUS Commitment to Implementing SDG16 Palli Unnayan Samity (PUS) is committed to promoting peace, justice, and strong institutions (SDG16) in southern Bangladesh, focusing on marginalized communities, particularly women, children, and smallholder farmers. Our mission is to enhance transparency, accountability, and participation at the local level while empowering communities to claim their rights and engage actively in governance processes. Objectives: Strengthen local governance and accountability mechanisms through participatory approaches. Promote access to justice and protection for vulnerable populations, especially women and children, to reduce violence and discrimination. Foster community awareness on rights, responsibilities, and democratic processes to enhance civic engagement. Build institutional capacities within local organizations to implement transparent, accountable, and inclusive practices. Work Plan: Conduct training and workshops on governance, human rights, and civic engagement for community leaders and youth groups. Facilitate community dialogues to promote transparency and reduce corruption at the local level. Implement women’s leadership programs to encourage active participation in decision-making and governance. Organize awareness campaigns on the rule of law, social accountability, and participatory planning. Monitor and evaluate local projects to ensure compliance with principles of accountability and fairness. Timeline: Year 1: Baseline assessment, community mobilization, and training for youth and women leaders. Year 2: Implementation of participatory governance initiatives, local dialogues, and awareness campaigns. Year 3: Evaluation, documentation of lessons learned, and dissemination of best practices across communities. Theory of Change: We believe that when marginalized communities are empowered with knowledge, skills, and platforms to engage in local governance, they can hold institutions accountable, reduce corruption, and ensure access to justice. By strengthening local leadership and promoting inclusive decision-making, PUS envisions communities that are active participants in building peace, justice, and strong institutions, thereby contributing to the broader 2030 Agenda. Through these initiatives, PUS aims to create measurable improvements in transparency, community engagement, women’s leadership, and access to justice, aligning our work directly with SDG16 targets and contributing to a more equitable and accountable society.

Organization's priorities and work in relation to commitment:

PUS Alignment with TAP Network’s SDG16+ and Accountability for the 2030 Agenda Palli Unnayan Samity (PUS) is deeply committed to advancing SDG16+ and strengthening accountability for the 2030 Agenda in southern Bangladesh. Our work focuses on empowering marginalized communities, especially women, youth, children, and smallholder farmers, enabling them to participate meaningfully in governance, claim their rights, and hold institutions accountable. By fostering inclusive and participatory approaches, PUS contributes directly to TAP Network’s mission of promoting peaceful, just, and accountable societies. Key Areas of Contribution: Promoting Transparency and Accountability: PUS facilitates community-led monitoring, public dialogues, and participatory governance initiatives to enhance transparency and reduce corruption at the local level. These interventions allow citizens to engage with local authorities, monitor resource allocation, and ensure that public services are delivered equitably and efficiently. Civic Engagement and Youth Leadership: We implement youth leadership programs, trainings, and workshops on participatory planning and decision-making. By equipping young people with the knowledge and skills to engage in governance processes, PUS fosters a generation of accountable leaders who advance SDG16+ objectives within their communities. Access to Justice and Human Rights Awareness: PUS conducts awareness campaigns on human rights, gender equality, and protection from violence. These activities empower communities to claim justice, challenge discrimination, and participate in decision-making processes that affect their lives. Institutional Capacity Building: Our organization works with local CSOs and community-based groups to strengthen institutional capacities. By embedding transparent, inclusive, and accountable practices within local organizations, PUS ensures that governance processes are sustainable and aligned with SDG16+ principles. Knowledge Generation and Sharing: PUS documents lessons learned, monitors program outcomes, and shares evidence-based approaches with relevant stakeholders. This contributes to TAP Network’s knowledge base on effective strategies for enhancing accountability, transparency, and participatory governance at the community level. Overall Impact: Through these integrated approaches, PUS translates global SDG16+ goals into tangible, community-driven actions. By strengthening local leadership, fostering civic participation, and promoting inclusive governance, our work helps create empowered communities capable of holding institutions accountable, reducing corruption, and advancing social justice. In doing so, PUS directly supports TAP Network’s vision of accountable institutions, inclusive participation, and sustainable development, while contributing to the broader 2030 Agenda for a just, equitable, and peaceful society.
